CCNP Recertification Map

Megan would like to share the CCNA/CCNP recertification map with you from the five steps.

Step 1

Take and pass CCNA exam on 12/1/2009

CCNA is valid until 12/1/2012

Step 2

Take and pass exam 642-901 (BSCI) on 6/1/2010

It will update your CCNA and is now valid until 6/1/2013

Also exam 642-901 (BSCI) will expire on 6/1/2013

Step 3

Take and pass exam 642-812 (BCMSN) on 11/1/2010

It will update your CCNA and is now valid until 11/1/2013

Exam 642-901 (BSCI) will still expire on 6/1/2013

Exam 642-812 (BCMSN) will expire on 11/1/2013

Step 4

Take and pass exam 642-825 (ISCW) on 4/1/2011

It will update your CCNA and is now valid until 4/1/2014

Exam 642-901 (BSCI) will still expire on 6/1/2013

Exam 642-812 (BCMSN) will still expire on 11/1/2013

Exam 642-825 (ISCW) will expire on 4/1/2014

Step 5

Take and pass exam 642-845 (ONT) on 10/1/2012

It will update your CCNA and is now valid until 10/1/2015

Now your CCNP is now valid until 10/1/2015

In the above steps you will have to take only one 642-xxx level exam to extend both your CCNP and CCNA

For example....

If you take and pass 642-812 (BCMSN) on 9/1/2015 (Note, you can choose any 642-xxx level exam) It will update both your CCNP and CCNA and both will be valid until 9/1/2018

Let's say you complete Steps 1 to Step 4 as shown above but Step 5 goes as follows...

Step 5

Take and pass exam 642-845 (ONT) on 7/1/2013

It will update your CCNA and is now valid until 7/1/2016

Also the exam you just took 642-845 (ONT) will expire on 7/1/2016

Previous exam 642-812 (BCMSN) will still expire on 11/1/2013

Previous exam 642-825 (ISCW) will still expire on 4/1/2014

Since previous exam 642-901 (BCSI) expired on 6/1/2013 and you did not pass the 642-845 (ONT) exam until after that date you must now re-take exam 642-901 (BCSI) again before 11/1/2013 when 642-812 (BCMSN) will expire to get your CCNP.

So now you take and pass 642-901 (BCSI) on 10/1/2013

It will update your CCNA and is now valid until 10/1/2016

Now your CCNP in now valid until 10/1/2016

Also in this article you will again have to take only one 642-xxx level exam to extend both your CCNP and CCNA as explained in the first paragraph.
