This is a Technical Specialist exam designed to assess candidates' hands-on skills in preinstalling Windows 7 for OEMs.

Audience Profile

Candidates for this exam are IT professionals who use the Microsoft OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK) and imaging tools to deploy and maintain Windows 7 desktops and additional applications and tools. Candidates should have a minimum of one year of experience addressing day-to-day issues involving desktop image deployments. Candidates should be familiar with Microsoft best practices for using the OPK.

* Prepare and install applications and devices.

This objective may include but is not limited to: applying drivers and software, for example, setting up peripheral devices and installing system updates; creating command-line scripts within the base image; integrating hot fixes; and preparing post-deployment software

Configuring the Image for Deployment

* Configure users.

This objective may include but is not limited to: adding additional users, configuring settings, configuring user-specific applications, and applying Group Policy

* Finalize the image.

This objective may include but is not limited to: modifying default preferences, for example, logos, folder locations, wallpaper, and screen savers; verifying the image

* Audit the image.

This objective may include but is not limited to: using sysprep and Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool (DISM)

* Capture the image.

This objective may include but is not limited to: generalizing the image and validating the captured image

Deploying and Updating the Image

* Deploy the image.

This objective may include but is not limited to: selecting a deployment method and tools, configuring network settings, and preparing the installation source

* Update the image.

This objective may include but is not limited to: updating software and applying patches within an image

* Modify the answer file.

This objective may include but is not limited to: adding file content and changing existing file content
